There is no denying that 2018 was another terrible year in terms of how many celebrities we lost. The legendary Burt Reynolds was just one of the many who left this world too soon. However, he wasn’t just an actor; he was a father. After adopting son Quinto with his wife at the time, Loni Anderson, Reynolds was expected to leave his son a healthy inheritance in his will. However, it turns out that he actually left Quinto with nothing…

He Left His Son Nothing

There is no denying that Burt Reynolds is one of the most influential actors in the world of Hollywood over the last century. With classic roles in movies such as Smokey and the Bandit and Boogie Nights, this was a man who screamed “Western hero” and was prolific to boot – starring in a staggering 200 movies and TV shows. It would take a long time until he was nominated for an Academy Award, but mark our words, Burt Reynolds is Hollywood royalty.

Hollywood Legend

The fact that Burt Reynolds was such a legendary Hollywood figure makes it even more tragic that he passed away recently. Although he lived a long life, this takes nothing away from the sadness that people felt when it was revealed that he passed away. The news came out of nowhere and shook the world of Hollywood to its very foundations. He might have had health issues, according to niece Nancy Lee Brown. However, it was still a shock to her.

Can’t Believe He’s Gone

To understand the recent developments in the aftermath of Burt Reynolds’ death, we need to go back to the very beginning. Having been born to Fern and Burton Reynolds, there was no denying that the young Burt had a complicated relationship with his parents. For the most part, he had a warm and healthy relationship with his mother. However, the same thing couldn’t be said about his father, who was a lot more emotionally distant with Burt.

Coming Up In The Game

Burt Reynolds took a lot of pleasure in developing a reputation as a young athlete. However, his aspiring career as a football player wouldn’t come without its fair share of injuries and setbacks. In fact, during his sophomore year, the talented young man had no choice but to put his footballing career to an abrupt end. Soon enough, he would try his luck as a parole officer. However, Burt Reynolds eventually became an actor, and the rest was history…

Sporty Guy

Before meeting Anderson, Burt had already been married to someone else. In 1963, he married British actress Judy Carne who was a major hit in the U.S. Like many celebrity marriages, this one did not last long. They both had busy lifestyles and did not end up having children. In 2015, Carne sadly passed away at the age of 76. Carne had only had two other relationships, one with producer Robert Bergmann and the other Hollywood heartthrob Warren Beatty.

His First Lady

Reynolds and Carne married when the two were in their twenties. They were only together for two years before deciding to call it quits and get a divorce. So why did their marriage not last? Many believe it was because the pair married too young, and they were both focused on their respective careers. Like most actors, who end up together the spark did not last, and it is still unclear whether Judy and Burt remained close after divorcing.

Calling It Quits

Given his fame and fortune, Reynolds was a big hit with the ladies. Everyone wanted a piece of the good-looking actor. One of the most high profile of his lovers was the famous tennis player, Chris Evert. “If Burt likes you, he really takes good care of you,” she once said. “Successful women aren’t a threat to him, and I think that’s what attracted me to him.” Despite being married three times in her life, she found Reynolds to be different.

Another Day, Another Woman

Another of Reynolds relationships came in 1970 when Dinah Shore. The two met when they appeared as guests on a chat show, and despite Shore being 20 years older, Reynolds couldn’t resist. “I’d never met anyone like her,” he said. “I realized there was a big age gap between us, but it didn’t make the slightest difference. I was already in love with her…” However, the couple broke up after Reynolds found out that Shore couldn’t have children.

Age Is Just A Number

There were a solid two decades between his two marriages, but Reynolds had other relationships during the time. After Judy and before Loni, Reynolds was not wasting time. He had the privilege of dating some of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. One of the actors most notable relationships was with Farrah Fawcett. The pair hit it off when they starred opposite one another in the 1981 comedy, The Cannonball Run, which turned out to be a major hit.

Using Time Wisely

Miko Mayama first caught Burt Reynold’s eye when they were working together on a movie project, 1969’s Impasse. For Reynolds, meeting an actress on set would end up being a recurring way to meet his romantic interests. But it wasn’t meant to be between them, and Miko was left heartbroken after Burt told her he was in love with another woman: Dinah Shore. He met the latter during a trip to Palm Springs, falling desperately in love with her.

The Marvelous Miko Mayama

According to Burt Reynolds, he wished he would have remained with Sally Field. “She was the love of my life and I screwed the relationship up,” he said. “That sense of loss never goes away,” he added. The fact that the memoir was written so long after their relationship just goes to prove how much he really thought she was something else. Even after all of those years, after both of them moved on to other people, he still had a deep love for her.

His Biggest Regret

Out of all the women he was involved with, Burt Reynolds didn’t marry many. One of the few who could have taken up the moniker “Mrs. Burt Reynolds” was Loni Anderson, who is famous from the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati. The two worked together on Stoker Ace, a 1983 movie that bombed at the box office. Despite this, the pair got married in 1988 and lasted for five years. Later, Reynolds admitted it was a big mistake to get married to Anderson. According to him, it was a “dumb move.”

Loni Anderson

Mutual attraction wasn’t the problem for the ’80s power couple, as Reynolds was extremely attracted to her. But attraction isn’t everything, as Reynolds would learn. Deep down, he knew they weren’t right for each other. He spoke about this in his memoir, remarking on the build-up before the marriage. “On the way to the ceremony,” he recalled, “my best man, the American football player Vic Prinzi, said: ‘Do you really want to do this?’…No, I don’t.”

What Was The Issue?

Although Loni Anderson and Burt Reynolds’s marriage ended not too long after they wed, there was something good that came out of it. They adopted a child together, a son named Quinton Anderson Reynolds. He’s now in his 20s and has followed his father’s footsteps, working in Hollywood. Unlike his parents, though, Quinton works behind the scenes as a camera operator. He worked on Minutes To Midnight, for example, which is a horror movie that was released in 2018.

Something Good Came Out

The only thing worse about Loni and Burt’s somewhat dysfunctional marriage was that their divorce totally eclipsed their relationship together. During their time together, Reynolds noted how Anderson would spend money like it was nothing. One example that he gave was when he gave her an American Express credit card with a $45,000 limit on it – which she spent in literally 30 minutes! On top of this, she would often buy expensive jewelry not one by one, but three at a time!

The Longest Divorce

After being married for a year, Loni and Burt decided to adopt their first child, Quinton. For a while, the couple did not give any reason as to why they adopted a child, rather than conceived their own, but eventually, news spread that they had trouble in the fertility department. After adopting Quinton into their family, the Reynolds decided not to have any more children. It must have been difficult for Quinton growing up, as both parents were famous which meant he often spent a lot of time alone.

No More Kids

After Burt Reynolds suffered a fatal heart attack last year at the age of 82, a great deal of heartfelt praise was sung in his honor. Despite being such a ladies man throughout his life, a lot of his female co-stars including Dolly Parton and Sally Field had nothing but good to say about him. When asked, Dolly Parton said, “You’ll always be my favorite Sheriff!” Reynold’s passing marked the loss of a true Hollywood legend, but we know his spirit will live on through his movies.

Tributes

After Reynold’s death, his immediate family was quite surprised when the reading of his will was done. According to reports, they had left absolutely no mention of his son Quinton in the entire thing. Not a single mention. The tabloids took to the news almost instantly, and there was a great deal of scandal around the issue. Had Reynolds and Quinton been on bad terms before his untimely passing? Was this done out of malice or spite? We were left to wonder – but not for that long!

Left Out Of Will

As the public waited with bated breath to find out more about why Quinton had been left out his dad’s will, news began to surface of a trust. While most people found it strange that the stars only child and successor wasn’t awarded anything in the will – at least until they found out that Reynolds had actually created a trust entirely for Quinton that was separate from his will. The idea behind this was so that his son could get better financial benefits from the agreement.

Trust Instead

No one seemed to expect it when Reynolds’ will was publicized, as parents generally provide for their children, especially when they are celebrities. For as many people who were perplexed by the decision to leave Quinton out of the will, Quinton himself didn’t seem too upset. Many were sure that Quinton knew beforehand that his father had planned to open a trust in his name, showing just how much Reynolds had changed after becoming a father.

Out Of Left Field

Burt Reynolds wouldn’t be the first celebrity to leave his child out of his will, though it’s far from the norm in Hollywood. One of the most famous examples of a celebrity who didn’t include their children in the will was Joan Crawford, who very publicly did not leave any inheritance to either of her two eldest children, Christopher and Christina. However, Burt’s relationship with Quinton was not in the same league by any means.

A League Of His Own

One of the biggest reasons that Reynolds didn’t want to leave Quinton money in his will was because of the heavy taxes such a gift would incur. Instead, Quinton won’t owe any of his inheritance to taxes, leaving him in a better financial position than if he hadn’t received the trust in the first place. Given that Reynolds had a shaky history with money, it shows just how much he’d learned before his death.

Beating The System

Though his money was put in a trust, it’s not uncommon for children to act out the moment those funds are made available to him. Quinton, however, has managed to remain humble despite being the son of one of the most beloved actors of all time. Rather than soaking up the privileges he was given, Quinton was determined to make it on his own. Many of Burt’s biggest fans find the quality to be an admirable one.

Out Of The Spotlight

While he had been a larger than life figure, after his passing, his memorial was kept relatively quiet. Some of the guests in attendance including Quinton, his ex-wife Loni, and even his former football coach from Florida State University. Both Bobby Bowden, his coach, and Loni spoke about Reynolds’ life, showing just how much of an influence he had on those who were close to him. He may not be around anymore, but his memory will certainly live on.
